Brass Horseshoe Brooch – an ancient Baltic ornament and garment fastener worn by both men and women. Its distinctive horseshoe shape symbolizes luck and protection, while the golden tone of brass has long been associated with the Sun, light, and vitality.
This type of brooch was widely used during the Iron Age (1st–13th century), especially in the regions of Zemgale and Latgale. The pin was used to fasten cloaks, shirts, and skirts, and its form and material were believed to carry protective and benevolent meaning.
Today, the brass horseshoe brooch is revived as an ethnographic, symbolic, and aesthetically refined accessory, worn both with traditional clothing and as a unique modern accent.
